Daily Fantasy US Open Picks and Sleepers
It’s time once again for the 116th US Open at one of the hardest courses in golf, the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. This one is going to be a lot of fun with birdies hard to come by and low scores at a premium, in fact, some golfers like Phil Mickelson claim it to be the hardest course they have ever played. I love it when the Majors play tough because it usually leads to a great final round on Sunday. Below we break down the top picks, sleepers and outright longshots for all your Daily Fantasy Sports contests.
Important Resources for US Open Fantasy Rosters
2016 US Open Top Picks
These are the upper tier, highly owned picks and for most of your daily golf lineups you will have to include at least one. The top 10 players in the world tend to perform the best at the US open.
Jason Day – in the last 2 years at the US Open, Day has placed 9th and 4th respectively. The world #1 is a no-brainer pick and I’d be shocked if he wasn’t in contention come Sunday. He has made 9 consecutive cuts and is among the top in putting and birdies made per round. Putting is going to be huge this year and Jason Day comes into the Open in fine form.
Key Stats – 8th in Putts Per Round, 7th in Scoring Average, 9 Consecutive Cuts, 6 Top Tens
Dustin Johnson – Ahh yes to draft or not to draft? Johnson is one of those players that almost always belongs on your team but yet never can seem to win the big one. He’s finished 2nd and 4th in the past two years so it’s hard not to respect his game at the US Open. On a course like this, I worry about his scrambling abilities especially if his long bomb drives or not down the middle. However, having made 21 consecutive cuts he seems like a safe bet to have on your team.
Key Stats – 3rd in Driving Distance, 22nd in Putts Per Round, 21 Consecutive Cuts, 8 Top Tens
Rory McILory – Always in the discussion no matter what tournament he is in, Rory comes into Oakmont on absolute fire in his last 5 tournaments. His previous 2 US Opens he finished 9th and 23rd. Rory’s short game seems to be in great form right now which is a must for any player looking to win the US Open and Mcilory has the best chance of the top tier based on his last 5 results.
Key Stats – 1st in Strokes Gained Off Tee, 25th in Greens In Regulation, 5 Top Tens
2016 US Open Sleeper Picks
Phil Mickelson – Maybe not a true sleeper but I think he might be overlooked at this stage in his career. Phil has all the stats in his short game needed to win this tourney and is still the best in golf when it comes to scrambling ability. He has been terrible in the Majors so far this year missing the cut in both but he just finished 2nd in his last tourney and he won his last major just 3 years ago.
Key Stats – 21st in Scrambling, 7th in Putts Per Rounds, 5 Top Tens
Brandt Snedeker – The veteran golfer has faired well in the last 2 US Opens finishing in the top ten both years. He’s a risky pick because he misses the cut 64% of the time however, his stats have me believing he might show up at Oakmont. His GIR is decent and he ranks 10th for scrambling. Can he win it? Not likely, but another top ten finish is not a far stretch.
Key Stats – 10th in Scrambling, 23rd in Scoring Average, 5 Top Tens

Longshot Value Pick for US Open
You almost always got to find a low owned, longshot pick for your Daily Fantasy Golf team, especially if you want to win Fantasy Golf’s Biggest Contest in the world. Here is who we are eyeing this week.
J.B. Holmes – Holmes is one of those guys that you tend to forget about but when you check the top 25 at the end of each tournament his name can be found more often than not. In fact, he has 8 top 25’s this year and is 2nd in driving distance. He has placed 27th and 17th in the last two US open tournaments and comes into Oakmont with a top 5 finish in his last event. He has been one of the hottest players on the tour this year and his salary will represent much value.
Key Stats – 2nd in Driving Distance, 14th in One Putt %, 48th in Scrambling
